Bringing History to Life

Franklin Community Schools and Johnson Memorial Hospital are giving 33 teachers in the Franklin Community School Corporation grants to take educational trips and share their experiences with their students.

Anne Wilson, who teaches fourth grade at Creekside Elementary, has received a $5,000 grant to go to Normandy this fall. She will trace the paths of Indiana journalist Ernie Pyle and her father, Lt. Frederic Floberg, on D-Day. At the time, Lt. Floberg was a 26 year old officer in the Navy on a patrol craft helping other vessels avoid danger.

"'They love stories and when they know it's all real, it becomes pretty important and that's what makes teaching so special,' Wilson said."

It’s wonderful to see school corporations and their communities supporting teachers and allowing them to have once-in-a-lifetime experiences that they can share with their students. Elevate Teachers hopes to see more teachers given opportunities like these!
