Students Surprise Their Teacher with a Trip

Students at Prescott Valley, Arizona’s Bradshaw Mountain High School know that their social studies teacher, George Ponte, dreams of going to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. In fact, when teaching about the Vietnam War, Ponte always mentions that he hopes to honor a lost friend by visiting the wall.

Ponte’s former student, U.S. Marine Chris Ames, remembered his teacher’s wish every time he talked about high school or met a Vietnam veteran. He decided to do something about it, creating a GoFundMe to raise enough money to send Ponte to Washington, D.C. More than 600 people donated to raise $17,300.

At Elevate Teachers, we love seeing people support teachers in whatever way they can. It’s clear that Ponte made a big impact on his students and community, and we’re happy to see them show their appreciation by helping him realize a dream.
