Students in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District in Fairbanks, Alaska can now take a more exploratory approach to learning. The district is in the process of implementing a Personalized Learning curriculum for their 13,000+ K-12 students.
Elementary students are adopting the new approach first and have already seen incredible growth, according to Ladd Elementary School teacher Jeanette Fortune. Time is set aside each day for students to learn more about subjects that they are interested in, teachers like Fortune are able to have more time one on one with each student, which, in turn, as resulted in increased attendance and excitement surrounding going to school each day.
